Aveksa Launches SaaS Identity and Access Management Platform
December 06, 2012

Two information security trends that businesses are struggling with today served as the impetus for Aveksa’s new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News
- Alert)) Identity and Access Management platform called MyAccessLive.
In the area of identity and access management, mid-size companies face many of the same challenges that larger companies face. Primarily, they need to know who in their organization has what kind of access to different information resources – including SaaS applications, on-premise applications and shared data files, Deepak Taneja, CTO of Aveksa, explained in an interview with TMCnet.
“They also need to know whether peoples’ access is appropriate not only today, but also over time. For example, security gaps frequently arise when employees change roles within the company, or leave the company,” Taneja said. “Small and mid-size companies face additional challenges around governing access in that they often don’t have dedicated staff or technology resources to adequately address this problem.”
MyAccessLive is designed to provide visibility and control of both cloud and on-premise applications in a one cloud-based service by helping companies ensure that user access to all applications is easy, appropriate and properly managed.
Organizations today, especially midmarket firms, are struggling with two information security trends, according to Taneja:
· The increased threat landscape is raising the importance of having a secure and well-managed IT environment; and
· The rapid and widespread adoption of SaaS applications by business users has greatly added to the complexity of managing user access across the enterprise.
Because of these trends, organizations need better control of their users by gaining a deeper understanding of user identities, roles and responsibilities, he explained. They also need to implement a quick and cost-effective easy way to manage and control user access to information resources, without requiring the extensive development efforts associated with traditional identity management solutions.
“Since it’s cloud-based, MyAccessLive provides midmarket companies with an easy-to-use and cost-affordable way to manage user access for information resources,” Taneja said. “Unlike the on-premise IAM solutions that Aveksa provides for large enterprises, MyAccessLive is a software-as-a-service offering that requires minimal technology and resource requirements for smaller companies, yet still provides extensive functionality to ensure that these companies have full visibility into who has access to what.”
While all companies, regardless of size, need to address these trends, midmarket enterprises face additional challenges since many have limited IT legacy infrastructures and many lack expertise in information security. Because of these limitations, many midmarket companies are looking to SaaS offerings to address IT initiatives such as Identity and Access Management.
“Software-as-a-service offerings are very attractive to midsize companies that are looking to optimize IT initiatives without adding expensive technology resources and infrastructure,” said Scott Crawford, research director at Enterprise Management Associates. “Cloud-based identity and access management solutions, such as Aveksa’s MyAccessLive, provide these companies an easy and affordable way to gain enterprise-wide control over who has access to their application and data resources.”
MyAccessLive is currently available for evaluation, and will be priced on a subscription model based on the number of people whose access is to be managed.
